“WaPo: When did Switzerland become Europe’s Saudi Arabia?” When did we decide to help oppression and our those who swear to destroy us?

I love HotAir, but I disagree with them every once in a while.  This is one of them.  The article starts with discussing a Washington Post article about the Switzerland miniret ban.

Mona Eltahawy doesn’t just blast the Swiss for their human-rights hypocrisy after voting to ban new construction of minarets over the weekend.  The Muslim essayist also takes the occasion to blast Muslim critics of the referendum for their sudden hue and cry over human rights themselves.

But then we get to statements like this:

Even for those who see Islam itself as an existential threat anywhere it resides, the minaret ban hardly addresses the issue.  After all, terrorist recruiters don’t use minarets to attract and radicalize followers.  It’s not the lofty architecture that makes people into crazed terrorists.  The message of the ban is very much the same as Saudi Arabia’s treatment of Christians and Muslim minorities with their building code: they’re not welcome and should leave.

HotAir, perhaps you don’t understand what Islam is and how it differs from Christianity and other religions.

Christianity is a religion.  A set of rules for conduct that should influence how you act in the society you live.  These rules are not violent or destructive.  Be good to people, worship, and tell others of your beliefs.

Islam is not a religion, it is a complete forced takeover of a society to establish a theocracy.  Islam controls every aspect of life from finances to what to wear to how to think.  It IS violent and destructive.  Take a look at the results of Islam.  Non-believers are not told about how wonderful Islam is and invited to join.  Non-believers join, become second class citizens, or die.  Those are the choices.  Women are less than men in all things.

Minirets are not just an “architectural” item, they are a symbol of oppression and control.  As Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, “The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers…”.  It is a political symbol of a theocracy.  Minirets broadcast calls to worship Islam across the land.  They wake people at the correct time to follow their religion.  They are a symbol that, no matter what you want, as you look across your land, Islam controls it.

Switzerland did not ban mosques, they did not ban worship, they did not ban Muslims.  They banned the symbol that says “this is now Muslim property”.  This is not a religious symbol.  It is a political one.  It is one that represents oppression, violence, and hatred.

The First Amendment is a wonderful thing, but it has nothing to do with this.  “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

There are tons of laws across the country about how and where a Christian church can be built.  The city and state can set the height of a church and so on.  I am sure you can find a group that wants to put a 300 foot tall cross in every city in the US  Don’t believe me?  Take a look at just one.  People go nuts about that, but a Muslim symbol of power and oppression?  Well, that’s different, right HotAir?

The misunderstandings of what Islam is, what it represents, and the hypocrisy surrounding religion is amazing.  I am very sad to see it has infected HotAir as well.  The US outlaws various terrorist groups, but we are happy to allow the symbols of the justification they use.

“But that’s just a few groups, not the whole religion”, you say.  Really?  How many pictures did you see of cheering Muslims when 9/11 happened?  Did you see any of them mourning, like we were?  After Fort Hood, how many pictures did you see of Muslims dancing?

Switzerland did not vote to stop Muslims, their worship, or their freedoms.  The voted to stop Muslims putting up a symbol of a theocracy that says “subjugate or kill”.  They protect the freedom of speech by blocking a symbolic threat to it, while taking away no one’s rights.

Bravo, Switzerland.  The quicker this whitewash of Islam ends, the better.
