Patterico’s Pontifications » NY Voter Fraud Case Heats Up

October 21, 2009 Leave a comment

This does not surprise me.  What will surprise me is if anyone is actually arrested and conviced of it, no matter what the evidence.  I see the DOJ dropping the charges again.

For all who claim there is no evidence voter fraud impacts elections, Fox News reports the Rensselaer County Board of Elections in Troy, N.Y., has found 38 bogus ballots that an election official acknowledges likely tipped city and county elections to the Democrats:

Thirty-eight forged or fraudulent ballots have been thrown out — enough votes, an election official admits, to likely have tipped the city council and county elections in November to the Democrats. Candidates would have been able to run both on the Democratic and Working Families Party lines in two weeks, and that could have given the Democrats the general election.

A special prosecutor is investigating the case and criminal charges are possible. New York State Supreme Court Judge Michael Lynch ruled that there were “significant election law violations that have compromised the rights of numerous voters and the integrity of the election process.”"

New York Republicans and Democrats blame the Working Families Party for the ballots, a group that has ties to ACORN and even the White House:

The Working Families Party has recently gained strength, and controversy, in New York. Republican and Democratic candidates in the Empire State can also run on third party lines, such as the Working Families Party, as well as the Liberal, Conservative, and Independence parties, among others. The extra line means extra votes that could bring victory.

Michelle Malkin » Obamacare doctor bribe fails in Senate, Reid whines

October 21, 2009 1 comment

Harry-Reid-f-u-300x277Poor Reid.  His bribe attempt failed.

It looked like the fix was in. The “Doc Fix,” that is. As the Heritage Foundation has been reporting, the White House and Dem leaders scurried today to try and pass a $247 billion payoff to doctors groups as an enticement to support Obamacare.

Surprise: The fix failed. The cloture voted on S. 1776 failed by 47-53.

Too funny: Far left liberal Scozzafava holds photo op … outside Hoffman’s office. Wait. What? She’s a Republican? Really?

October 21, 2009 4 comments

Ok, this lady is a joke in so many ways.  Hell, she is a moron even by democrat standards.

A reporter attempted to ask her some questions and she called the cops on him.  They her people accused him of screaming questions at her.  A shame for her that he recorded it.  They backed off that accusation.  According to the AP, “In a statement released Tuesday to the blog Politico, Scozzafava’s campaign said the reporter ‘repeatedly screamed questions (in-your-face-style),’ but later issued a statement deleting the accusation.”

She is afraid to have a debate with Hoffman and has refused his offers of one and then accused him of not wanting to discuss the issues.

She is pro-Abortion, pro higher taxes, pro-Stimulus bill, pro-Obamacare and for some strange reason she is… a Republican?  WTF?  Seriously.

So her latest fiasco and brain fart?  Lets look a the litany of fail.

  • After the US is making fun of her for being afraid to answer a simple question about abortion and calling the cops, she decides that she needs to respond and tell people Hoffman has no “political courage”.
  • Decide that the best place for this is in front of Hoffman’s campaign headquarters.
  • Bring just a couple of your own people with you and leave lots of room for Hoffman supporters to come out of the door behind you with the signs they have hundreds of inside.
  • Invite the press to watch you make a fool of yourself with “Hoffman for Congress” signs behind you.

All I can say is. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

A helpful hint from Dave Weigel to whoever it was on Team Dede that thought a presser outside the opponent’s HQ would be a smooth move: “Little-known fact: There are lots of campaign workers, and signs, in such offices, ready to be deployed.”

The Jawa Report: New ACORN Sting Video: Philly!

October 21, 2009 Leave a comment

UPDATE 2:  Big Government came out with this:

**UPDATE 2:24 PM EST** We muted the audio of the ACORN employees on the video released today due to ACORN’s legal attack upon us.  We call upon ACORN to state publicly now that it has no objection to the public release of any its employees oral statements to us.  If they are interested in the truth, why wouldn’t they do so?

UPDATE:  This looks like it is going to be crap.  Its obvious in the video that they were not kicked out, like ACORN claims, BUT it is edited with sections having the audio removed.  That’s a problem.  Up to this point, no one could question their accuracy, now they have opened themselves up to having that attacked.  Unless they release the un-edited version ASAP and it says the exact same thing, they may have done a lot of damage to themselves.  I don’t understand what possessed them to release this.

obamacornOh noes… More ACORN fun!  And this was the office that supposedly kicked them out and contacted the police?  OUCH

I went to college literally five or six blocks from this ACORN office at Temple University. I’m not shocked, given the neighborhoods of that area, that this goes on.

They utterly DESTROY the tapestry of lies the ACORN worker and the leftwing apologists and ACORN defenders put forth in the press. Notice that Media Matters was all too eager to help spread these lies, and how the mainstream press flacks repeat the lies told to Media Matters. Over. And over.

These leftwing "activists" are terminally afflicted with an inability to tell the truth. Are you shocked yet?

Remember the "police report" this office filed? That they "kicked out" James and Hannah? Yeah – didn’t exactly happen that way. To paraphrase the immortal words of the much-maligned Joe Wilson, "YOU LIE, ACORN."

Should Sarah Palin go on Oprah? Of course. Does she have a choice?

October 21, 2009 Leave a comment

sarah-palin1People have been discussing this like she could really say no.  Yes, Oprah used her show as a platform to elect Obama and dissed Palin in the middle of the election.  Yes, this will not be a friendly venue, but that’s not the point.  There are several reasons that she has to go.

  1. If she said no, she would be accused of being afraid to face questions
  2. Obama has shown is fear of Fox News.  She can’t use the same excuse to avoid Oprah.
  3. Sarah needs to prove that she is a better person by showing up
  4. She needs the public exposure
  5. She needs to show she can answer questions in public from a hostile source.

This is a pivotal moment for her.  She can really screw herself over here if she makes mistakes, but at the same time, she can come out of this with a HUGE jump in popularity and image.

I know Sarah has the ability and the morals to be a great conservative president, but she needs to convince the rest of the US.  She needs to get out there and let people see who she is and how she handles herself instead of letting the liberals in the press tell everyone how horrible she is.

She has to go on Oprah and she has to do well.  Good luck, Sarah.

ACORN’s Party Likely Stole NY Election– Fraud Investigation Turns Up Bogus Ballots

October 20, 2009 Leave a comment

obamacornWhat else needs to be said.  ACORN officials need jail time.

Members of the Working Families Party are accused of stealing a New York election with bogus absentee ballots.
FOX News reported that thirty-eight forged or fraudulent ballots have been thrown out, according to records at the Rensselaer County Board of Elections in Troy, N.Y. Enough votes, an election official admits, to likely have tipped the November election to the Democrats.
Founding Bloggers is all over the news today:

Brian Suozzo voted with an absentee ballot in the Working Families Party primary on Sept. 15 because, as his application stated, he was “at home recovering from medical procedure.”

Jessica Boomhower’s application said she would be attending a “work conference in Boston.”

Michael Ward couldn’t vote in person because he was “taking care of elderly parent.”

Kimberlee Truell was on a “Bus trip to casino,” as was Miguel Vazques.

The only problem with these absentee ballot records at the Rensselaer County Board of Elections in Troy, N.Y., is that they’re phony, voters and investigators say — and they’ve prompted what’s being called an unprecedented investigation of suspected voter fraud.

Thirty-eight forged or fraudulent ballots have been thrown out — enough votes, an election official admits, to likely have tipped the city council and county elections in November to the Democrats. Candidates would have been able to run both on the Democratic and Working Families Party lines in two weeks, and that could have given the Democrats in the general election.

A special prosecutor is investigating the case and criminal charges are possible. New York State Supreme Court Judge Michael Lynch ruled that there were “significant election law violations that have compromised the rights of numerous voters and the integrity of the election process.”

Among the reasons cited on the fraudulent forms for absentee voting: “traveling to Buffalo,” attending a “screen printing conference in Syracuse,” “working late shift,” “working construction,” and “home — ill.”

“Someone took my signature and voted with it and I felt extremely violated,” Suozzo told Fox News. He is a soft-spoken 28-year-old environmental engineer who says he never saw, let alone signed, the Working Families Party Absentee ballot application that carried his supposed signature. He was flabbergasted that someone would vote for him and submit it.

…The Working Families Party has recently gained strength, and controversy, in New York. Republican and Democratic candidates in the Empire State can also run on third party lines, such as the Working Families Party, as well as the Liberal, Conservative, and Independence parties, among others. The extra line means extra votes that could bring victory.

Hillary Clinton garnered 2.7 percent of her total votes from the WFP line when she first ran for Senate in 2000, which increased to 5 percent of her total vote in 2006. In September, Clinton’s former campaign manager for her 2000 Senate run, New York City Councilman Bill DeBlasio, who has been endorsed by the WFP, beat two long-established politicians in the Democratic primary. Critics also accuse the Working Families Party of having a long association with the troubled activist group, ACORN. Bertha Lewis, ACORN’s CEO, is one of the party’s co-founders. The New York Times reported this month that “Patrick Gaspard, the White House political director, worked with ACORN in New York to set up the Working Families political party and sat on the party’s board with Ms. Lewis.”

The WFP has also endorsed New York Democratic Sen. Kristen Gillibrand, who was one of only seven Senators who voted against cutting federal housing funds to ACORN in September.

But the jockeying for a candidate to win the Working Families Party line may have crossed the line in Troy.

Good Grief… ANOTHER Mao-Praising Obama Czar Caught on Tape (Video)

October 20, 2009 Leave a comment

Here we go.  More evidence that Obama has loaded his administration with Communist radicals.  Go to Gateway Pundit to view the video.

How many commies have invaded the White House?
…We may never know.

But here’s the latest Obama Czar praising mass-murderer Mao Tse-Tung in a speech:

Ron Bloom is the Manufacturing Czar. In the video he admits, “We kind of agree with Mao that power comes largely from the barrel of a gun.”
Doesn’t that make you feel secure?

So who is Ron Bloom?
Jammie Wearing Fool wrote this about the former SEIU negotiator:

The name Ron Bloom is one that we need to start paying attention to. He has a long history of being the negotiating face of unions in a suit. He is a Harvard Business School graduate who has worked for the unions beginning with SEIU for decades. The most recent union he represented was the United Steel Workers (USW) before becoming a part of the automotive team that Obama put together. You know the one that had the head Steven Rattner having to resign over some questions about his personal finances mixed in with a little fraudulent money gifts.Rattner was replaced by Ron Bloom, and voila the United Auto Workers (UAW), got a sweetheart deal backed up by the power of the federal government to try and stave off bankruptcy.

Top White House Official Says Obama Team ‘Controlled’ Media Coverage During Campaign – Political News – FOXNews.com

See???!!  This is exactly what Obama is talking about.  Obviously, pointing out what his people say is biased and partisan.  How dare they question him.

The Obama campaign’s press strategy leading up to his election last November focused on "making" the media cover what the campaign wanted and on exercising absolute "control" over coverage, White House Communications Director Anita Dunn told an overseas crowd early this year.

In a video of the event, Dunn is seen describing in detail the media strategy used by then-Sen. Barack Obama’s highly disciplined presidential campaign. The video is footage from a Jan. 12 forum hosted by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development in the Dominican Republic.

"Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn’t absolutely control," Dunn said, admitting that the strategy "did not always make us popular in the press."

Helen Thomas Warns White House to Quit Attacking Fox News.

October 19, 2009 Leave a comment

Helen ThomasHelen Thomas is a crazy old bat as far as I am concerned, but just like the old saying about a broken clock being right twice a day, she gets this one right.

I honestly think this will do wonders for Fox News.  I bet it will be a rating bonanza.  All those people out there are going to think, “Wow.  Obama is pissed that Fox News is actually fact checking what his people say.   Might have to check that out.”

Oh, you know what would be fun as hell to see?  If Fox News is not really a press organization, why doesn’t the White House remove them from the White house press briefings.  They control that, right?

One last question I have to ask.  Why the hell is Helen still in there?  I am thinking that her chair must be molded to her ass by now and have that funky old lady smell or something.  I can’t see any other reason she is let in there like actual press reporters.

Veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas, who has covered every president since Jack Kennedy, advised the White House to abandon their attacks on Fox News today. She attributed the administration’s visceral reaction to attacks from Fox to a naive sense of invincibility generally held by new presidents.

Asked by Joe Scarborough of MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’ what "we want our president to know and do," in reference to the title of her new book, Thomas immediately replied "stay out of these fights… They can only take you down. You can’t kill the messenger."

Feds won’t overrule states on marijuana laws. No, guys. This is NOT a good thing.

October 19, 2009 1 comment

A few of the conservative blogs out there disagree with me on this, but in my opinion, they misunderstand the whole situation.

They seem to think that ignoring a federal law is ok as long as the states want to handle it.  That’s not the way its supposed to work.

Federal law trumps state law.  No questions, no debate.  That’s the way its supposed to be.  Not enforcing a federal law because that state has its own ideas is insane.  At what point do we draw the line?  What if one state says the illegal immigration is legal?  What if California, in a fit of liberal insanity decided that all military installations belonged to them?  Would that be ok because it supports “Federalism”?  Of course not!

As I said, when federal law covers anything, a state law can add additional restrictions, but cannot lessen nor remove the impact of that federal law.  Disagree?  Well, guess what?  You are wrong.  Let’s check that little thing we call a Constitution:

THE SUPREMACY CLAUSE Article. VI. This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

So, these blogs misidentify the problem and think that putting the states over the federal government is the way it should be.  Not even close people.  You are trying to fix the wrong problem with the wrong solution.

The problem is that the federal government is regulating TOO MUCH, not that the laws shouldn’t cover the states.

Remove a federal law and the states decide what happens.  If you want medical marijuana legal in a state, change the federal law to remove the restrictions on it, then it is automatically up to the states to decide.  Ceding power to the states and ignoring federal law weakens the entire nation.

The federal government should be loathe to put ANY law in place and only do so if they have to.  States can decide most of this on their own.  Instead, we have a situation where the federal government wants to control every aspect of our lives and every new law they add weakens the powers of the states.

You want a state to have a law about something?  Make the Federal government give up control of that thing.  Ignoring a federal law because a president doesn’t like it sets a dangerous precedence.  What happens when he says “Let’s not enforce immigration laws?”  When the borders open up because the states don’t have the resources to protect them, will the conservatives say “If we could count on this as an indicator for a trend towards federalism in the Obama administration, I’d call it the best development since Election Day” as Hot Air did about this?

The president is the head of the executive branch of the government.  His JOB is to enforce the laws.  He is failing at that job and sadly, getting praised for it by some conservatives.  Conservatives are supposed to believe in a smaller central government, not one that picks and chooses what laws it will enforce.

In a shocking move, the Obama administration has decided to embrace federalism.  Well, not really all that shocking, as the Department of Justice plans to reverse a Bush administration policy of enforcing federal marijuana laws in states that allow for medicinal use of the substance.  The decision, to be officially announced later today, will impact fourteen states that allow for the possession and distribution of marijuana under varying levels of medical supervision:

Federal drug agents won’t pursue pot-smoking patients or their sanctioned suppliers in states that allow medical marijuana, under new legal guidelines to be issued Monday by the Obama administration.

Two Justice Department officials described the new policy to The Associated Press, saying prosecutors will be told it is not a good use of their time to arrest people who use or provide medical marijuana in strict compliance with state law.
