Hot Air » Blog Archive » Palin on Scozzafava’s withdrawal: Now we must unite

I am not sure why, but HotAir seems to be very forgiving of the fact that Newt and the GOP tried to push a liberal, pro-abortionist, pro-ACORN candidate  Maybe I am reading it wrong.

My concern now is that the people who were going to vote for Scozzafava are moderate-left people who were voting for the “other” liberal.  How many of these people are voting for the liberal?  Now that we have gotten rid of one of the liberals, I fear many will switch to the official Dem, instead of the GOP supported one.

I am disgusted by anyone who backed this DIABLO.  Those who had the moral strength to stand up for the true conservative should be praised.

Palin rightly calls for unity, not the unity of fake Republicans, DIABLOs, and RINOs, but of ACTUAL conservatives.  I am glad to see that Gingrich finally joined the party, but I would have preferred he not turn on conservatives in the first place.

If Hoffman loses, I think one of the biggest reasons is the the GOP and people like Newt supported the liberals, instead of the conservatives.

Totally true, and precisely Gingrich’s point in endorsing Hoffman so quickly after Team Dede threw in the towel this morning. But there are a lot of Scozzafava supporters who’ll read this tomorrow and wonder why Palin wasn’t worried about unity when she dropped the hammer on their preferred candidate — who, by the way, was her party’s nominee — last week.

ABOUT DAMN TIME: Gingrich endorses Hoffman

I understand HotAir saying this is a good thing and all, but I am still pissed.

Newt tried to berate Hoffman supporters as splitting the vote.  That’s just wrong.  The only one splitting the vote was a liberal as the GOP candidate.  I am sick and tired of seeing one RINO after another elected and turning on us (looking at you right now, Snowe)

Newt and the leadership in the GOP need to realize that we support the ideals of the GOP.  The GOP abandoned us, we didn’t abandon the GOP.  The fact that there had to be a “Conservative” candidate to run against the GOP one shows how far they have fallen from us.

Hopefully, this is the shot across the bow that makes this shipwreck in progress turn around.  If the GOP sees that we are done with electing DIABLOs and RINOs maybe they will turn it around.  The US wants and needs CONSERVATIVE, not DEMOCRAT LITE.

Hopefully, the GOP will help us do this.  If not, step aside and let us elect real Republicans, not the fake ones they are pushing.  Scozzafava was a joke, and no one was laughing, except the Democrats who had 2 candidates in that election.  One supported by the Democrats, one supported by Newt and the GOP.

So, as I said in the title.  ABOUT DAMN TIME, Newt.

You guys will dump on him as a johnny-come-lately, but (a) his support for Scozzafava was always strategic, driven more by stopping the Democrats next year than stopping Hoffman and (b) as her most prominent Republican supporter, this is the most important endorsement Hoffman could have right now aside from Scozzafava’s (or maybe Snowe’s or Collins’s). There isn’t much time left before the election and there are bound to be hurt feelings among Team Dede’s Republican loyalists, most of whom probably aren’t all that conservative anyway. To avoid my nightmare scenario of her voters breaking for the Democrat or staying home (and I’m not the only one who thinks it’s possible), every last Republican with an ounce of sway needs to push them to get over it ASAP. Here’s Gingrich setting the tone, no doubt with Romney and Huckabee soon to follow:

Gingrich made the announcement via Twitter shortly after the Republican Party nominee Scozzafava announced she was releasing supporters from their commitment to back her.

“Scozzafava dropping out leaves hoffman as only anti-tax anti-pelosi vote in ny 23 Every voter opposed to tax increases support doug hoffman,” Gingrich wrote on Twitter. (Tweet shown as it appeared)
