It’s clear that President Barack Obama’s $787-billion stimulus hasn’t worked as advertised, but some economists are worried it could backfire and cause something much worse.

According to a new study by economists Charles Rowley of George Mason University and Nathanael Smith of the Locke Institute and endorsed by Nobel laureate James Buchanan, the Keynesian tactics employed by Obama "will ultimately hamper the long-term growth potential of the U.S. economy and may risk delaying full economic recovery by several years." The study accuses the president of making Depression-era mistakes.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.

And now?

Now Obama is asking Congress to raise the debt ceiling, something lawmakers are almost certain to do despite misgivings about the federal debt. The ceiling already has been hiked three times in the past two years, and the House took action earlier this year to raise the ceiling to $13 trillion.

Funny how things change, huh?

More of the MSM hiding the truth it doesn’t like.

You might think a major metropolitan newspaper that boasts "The Midwest’s largest reporting team" on its front page would report on a suburban demonstration attracting thousands of people.  In the case of the Chicago Tribune, you’d be wrong.

Today’s Tribune print edition makes no mention of yesterday’s Tea Party Express protest in New Lenox, Illinois, located only 36 miles from Chicago’s Loop.  The Southtown Star did cover the event on its Web site, noting:

About 6,000 people packed the hillside venue at The Commons Performing Arts Pavilion for the protest, part of a nationwide Tea Party Express tour that includes speeches, musical performances and updates from a traveling Fox News correspondent.

Monday’s audience was the largest yet, organizers said.

Oh, yeah. That’s what will help the manufacturing sector. A union boss, raised as a socialist, as a “manufacturing czar”.

I work with a lot of people in  manufacturing.  Unions are strangling them and raise costs and make it much more likely that a company will go under or layoff people.

How can you put someone who has no interest in company needs be put in charge of manufacturing?  The manufacturing industries are suffering and pushing more union control will not help them recover.

Czars serve two purposes to Obama.  First, to pay off those who serve him and reward their support.  Secondly, to consolidate power outside of the checks and balances of Congress under himself.  Both are wrong.

Also interesting is that Ron Bloom was raised as a Socialist:

Born in New York City and raised in Swarthmore, a suburb of Philadelphia, much of Bloom’s early life revolved around Habonim (now known as Habonim Dror), a progressive Labor Zionist youth movement that emphasizes cultural Judaism, socialism and social justice.  – Baltimore Jewish Times (cached version)

Anyone else notice how many in Obama’s group have socialist or communist backgrounds?

President Obama’s payoffs to Big Labor continue.

The union bosses got not one, but two, Cabinet appointees: Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis.

Former SEIU chief lobbyist and Soros-funded operative Patrick Gaspard is White House Director of Political Affairs.

SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger serves on the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board.

SEIU thug-in-chief Andy Stern has a seat at the table of every domestic policy initiative.

At the New York Federal Reserve, the AFL-CIO’s New York chief Dennis Hughes is now chairman, replacing Obama Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.

AFL-CIO official Naomi Walker received a midnight lobbyist waiver so she can communicate with her union buddies in her new role as Assistant Deputy Secretary of Labor.

And to cap off Labor Day weekend, Obama named union heavy Ron Bloom — who cut his teeth at the foot of John Sweeney when he headed up the SEIU — the new “manufacturing czar.”

Bloom will continue to double-dip the government coffers as the Treasury Secretary’s car czar — oh, excuse me, “senior auto adviser.”

Like so many of the Czars of the Obama Underworld, Bloom will serve in a completely superfluous position. Why does America need a “manufacturing” czar? Doesn’t the Department of Labor cover that jurisdiction already?

No, Bloom has no actual, specialized experience in manufacturing.

Human Events.com – Why am I on their mailing list? And why do they sign you up for everything by default?

I work in the IT field and I have a lot of experience with email and spam filtering.  Because of this, I carefully check each piece of email I receive and which mailing lists I sign up for.

Somehow, I started getting emails from Human Events, which I didn’t sign up for.  Now, these guys are a conservative group and send out emails for Ann Coulter and Newt Gingrich, so it was not offensive.  I assume that a friend of mine signed me up not realizing that I will hunt them down and kill them for giving out my email address.

The reason for this post is, be careful with these guys.  I checked it out and signed up for a Newt Gingrich newsletter.  It did say at the bottom “Also by email, you will receive the latest conservative news and offers from Human Events. Unsubscribe at any time. We value your privacy.”

Somehow, I also signed up for emails from Ann Coulter, Conservative DVD Club offers, Conservative Book Updates, and third party stuff.  This was all by default.  This is wrong.  I have a real problem with someone doing this.  Looking on the Human Events site, I don’t see that they have a DVD Club.  Who runs that?  And what is this “3rd party” crap?

And if you uncheck all that stuff?  You STILL get 3rd party emails!  You have to check an additional box at the bottom, then select to completely unsubscribe.  Its unintuitive and deceptive.

Just be careful if you want their newsletter.  I know that I won’t sign up for it because of this.  I would suggest that you avoid them, since they are not very honest about what you are agreeing to.

If anyone really believes that this was the original speech he wanted to give, they are completely naive.  If this whole thing had not blown up in his face, I am sure he would be calling on them to obey and serve him, have everyone fill out papers on how they could serve him, and make them watch videos (which some schools did) that told them to pledge to help Obama.

The White House has released the prepared text of President Obama’s "back to school" speech. The speech exhorts students to study hard and aim to achieve big things. It is devoid of any controversial content. As such, it is unobjectionable.

One might have hoped for less discussion of Obama himself, particularly the things he’s tried to accomplish in the area of education. But that hope would have been unrealistic with this president.
